A Spooky Dinner

We had worms, guts, snot, blood, and brains for dinner last night!
It was Spoooooooky!

The bubbly blood! The girls bought it! Being a parent is so much fun!
They were so intrigued...
Photobucket
It was some seriously powerful stuff...
Photobucket
ooooo blood!
Photobucket
Okay okay, you got me... it's really cool aid and dry ice...
Photobucket
When I was making these Rachel came in and said, "What's that Mom?"
I told her I picked my nose and threw all my boogers in the pudding.
You should have seen the look on her face!
Photobucket
Worms!
Photobucket
It took her like ten minutes to take a bite. Even after all the reassuring that it was only spaghetti noodles!
Photobucket
OH.MY.WORD
This picture KILLS me...
Photobucket
Like I said- ten minutes! I can already tell Christmas is going to be WAY fun this year!
Photobucket
Oh, it IS only spaghetti noodles!
 Funny girl.
Photobucket
Brains!
Photobucket
Maggie enjoyed her snot and didn't even think twice before taking a bite...
 You can't fool this baby!
Photobucket
She even slurped up the brains!!!
Photobucket
"Rachel, do you want to try some brains?"
"No No No, not me Mom"
haha!
Photobucket
Can you tell I had a blast with this dinner?
Photobucket
Even afterwards, Rachel was still inspecting the blood (cool aid)....
This morning during breakfast she said, "I'm not drinking any blood Mommy."
"Okay sweetie, more for me!"

I love this land- God Bless the USA

The girls and I went and voted yesterday!
Photobucket
I really wanted to bring Rachel to the voting booth with me. I wanted to show her that every voice counts in this country. I wanted to show her what her Daddy fights for. I told her how this is the land of the free and the home of the brave. I know she's only three, but I think she understood a little bit of what I told her.

A few months ago the girls and I were out garage saling when low and behold my car began to overheat. We had been out and about for quite a while and the girls where very grumpy and tired of sitting in the car. My frustration level continued to rise as I pulled into a gas station and began tending to the car. That dumb car. Why does it keep doing this to me? I told the girls we would have to wait for the car to cool down and we went inside and got some candy. Overall I was just in a bad mood.
I got the girls back in the car and all of the sudden a older lady pulls up. She had a grandma air about her and a gentle smile. She asked if we needed help and I told her that we were fine. She then asked Rachel and Maggie if they'd like some strawberries and pulls a bunch of fresh strawberries out of her lunch bag.The girls were in heaven! As they munched on strawberries the lady and I began to talk. I told her that ever since my husband deployed to Afghanistan my car seems to hate me. She laughed and told me that that's typical!
It sure is.

Eventually she shared with me that she too had a loved one who served in Afghanistan  Her son was killed in action nine months ago. I was speechless. I don't live on an Army post, and I just don't know many people who deal with deployment so when she told me about her son it all became very real. Not that is wasn't before- I just never felt so raw in my life. I immediately stopped whining about my car and thanked Heavenly Father that my husband wasn't only strong and healthy, but alive. I embraced her and told her how grateful I was for her son and his family. That was a hug I'll never forget. She then told me that she would pray for our little family, and I knew without a doubt that she would.

As I walked out of that voting booth today with my girls in tow, I couldn't help but get emotional. This is an amazing country. So many heroes have sacrificed their very lives for the cause of freedom. Every time I sing the national anthem I tear up and think of how blessed I am to be an American.
God Bless the USA

A Trip to the Zoo

We took a trip to the Zoo with our Aggie friends, Ruth, Heather, and Hannah. It was so good to see old friends. I wish we could hang out all the time!
Photobucket
I have no idea what I told my girls to say... hahaha! Little Hannah was such a trooper after all their traveling. I love it when my kids have friends to play with. It makes all the difference!
Photobucket
We got to watch them feed the lions! So awesome! I kept telling Rachel that lions  love to eat baby guts and they were probably feeding them kids that got lost from their parents at the zoo.
haha! I'm so bad.
Rachel was seriously worried until I told her that I was just teasing. After that her response was, "You're teasing Mommy." It's too easy.
Photobucket
Our favorite spot at the Fort Worth Zoo is the big bird feeding cage! The girls LOVE it in there!!! I do too. It is way fun...
Photobucket
These pictures make me want to go out and buy a bird... hmmmmm...
Photobucket
Hehehe... Maggie loves them birds!
Photobucket
Want some of my food birdie?
Photobucket
I totally forgot my camera that day. Thanks Heather for capturing some awesome shots of the girls and I! We had so much fun!

Texas State Fair

It Fair time!!! The Texas State Fair is HUGE and there is always a lot to see and do. We stayed at the petting zoo for a good long time. Maggie had no fear of the animals...
Photobucket
The puppet show is always a hit with the kiddos plus it's air conditioned! Score!
Photobucket
The kids got to have a make believe farm experience. They went through the whole process of planting, harvesting, and selling at the market.
Photobucket
I so want one of these!
Photobucket
In a split second we have Maggie awake...
Photobucket
And then we have Maggie asleep...
Photobucket
Rachel pulled herself up onto the wall and squeezed between these two ladies... complete strangers. She makes friends where ever she goes...
Photobucket
"We're going to ride that Mommy?"
Photobucket
Why yes, yes we are.
Did you know that the Texas State Fair ferris wheel is the largest in North America and can carry 264 people at one time? Pretty crazy huh?
Photobucket
The only picture I managed to get as I was clutching my Maggie in my lap... Yes, I'm a complete wuss when it comes to watching my children do scary things.
Photobucket
I got the kids a funnel cake for the complete and sole purpose of getting to take these pictures right here! I love photography moments!
Photobucket
Like a pack of wolves...
Photobucket
Let's all huddle around the funnel cake...
Photobucket
You can't go to the fair without buying a funnel cake. Its just the principle of the thing!
Photobucket
haha! Daisy's mouth in the corner! I think they thoroughly enjoyed themselves as did I...
Photobucket
Let's go again!!!

Life is a Highway

We all have things going on in our lives and reasons why we do certain things that only the people closest to us understand. For me, its traveling. I can't tell you how many people don't seem to understand why I don't stay in one spot for too long. One of the blessings of this deployment is the simple fact that the girls and I aren't tied down to a house or school schedules.  Its very easy for us to take off whenever we feel like it! I love that. Gratefully, my girls love it too.
Frankly, no place feels like home without Daddy. Sometimes the highway is as close as I can get.

We stay busy going to races and visiting family! One of the most therapeutic things in the world for me is loading down the car, hitting the highway, and turning on my favorite Pandora stations.
Photobucket
There's also something else that I love about road trips. I don't quite know how to explain it...
There's a peace that comes over me while I'm driving.  My mind is flooded with thoughts.
When I drive I think about my troubles and the things I'm struggling with. Then I think about all the funny things my Dad or Grandpa would say in response to all those silly worries. I think of my sweetheart. Going on road trips is one of the things we love to do together. We talk about the future and things we are looking forward to. I think about the all the things I could do better and all the things I've done right. And when ole' scratch enters my thoughts telling me all sorts of lies, I just play "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and that gets rid of him real fast. haha!
And I think about how lucky I am to have these two beautiful girls in my life... I wouldn't ever want to go through a deployment without them...

Boots

I love shoes. Rachel loves shoes. But Maggie REALLY loves shoes.
She goes to bed with her princess slippers.
And she'll steal your boots every chance she gets...
Photobucket
Look at me Mom! I'm a pro at this boot wearin' thing!
Photobucket
She melts my heart. She is so good to me! She just grabbed me today and hugged me. I mean flat out, cheek to cheek, arms wrapped tight around my neck kind of hugging.
There is absolutely nothing in this world better than being a Momma.
Photobucket
Do you think I'll ever get my boots back?
Photobucket
It was a long, long day. Now this freshly bathed, sweet smelling, boot wearing baby needs to go to bed!

100 Years

My dear Great Grandma Kelly passed away a few weeks ago. As soon as my Mom called and told me the news I automatically felt this awful sadness followed by great joy. She was 100 years old- Holy Smokes!!! What a legacy! I knew has soon as I heard that the burial would be in Springfield, Missouri that we would be going. After all, it is only 8 hours away, plus the girls and I are always up for an adventure. I also knew that it would be an opportunity to see distant relatives that I haven't seen in years. I love reconnecting with family and learning things about my family that I never knew before. I find so much strength in stories and family history.

100 years...
Photobucket
Good thing there were flowers EVERYWHERE!!! It kept my girls occupied throughout the burial.
Photobucket
My Great Uncle Steve and his family...
Photobucket
The Metcalfs along with my uncles, dad, and cousin...
Photobucket
Oh my Grandpa... I love this man. He is an excellent public speaker and always uses those expressive hands! haha!
Photobucket
Grandma Kelly finally reunited with her sweetie, Louis...
Photobucket
We had a shin-dig at Golden Corral afterwards. One good thing about Golden Corral is that there's always something there you can find that everyone will like. For Maggie, it was the ice cream.
One thing about this picture- She is wearing her Great Aunt shoes. Just walked up to her and started tugging on her foot! She was happy to oblige...
Photobucket
Our whole group...
Photobucket
I can't help by remisnice in a few pictures from our 5 generation photo shoot a few years ago... We flew all the way up to Utah to introduce baby Rachel to her Great Great Grandma...
Photobucket
5 Generations...
Photobucket
What a legacy! What a life to celebrate! We've got some big shoes to fill!
Photobucket
We love you Grandma!
I know you're up there watching over us... probably baking cookies. ;)
